It's PRIDE month and I put together a Spotify playlist collab with friends at HOMOGROUND in Brooklyn, NY. This playlist was created to express solidarity with Pride Haldimand-Norfolk 2018 in Dunnville, Ontario and those who countered the surprise attack of a hate group. Pride-goers blew bubbles, drummed drums, and locked arms to form a circle in front of the haters to block out the terrifying disruption. Danny Dymond also kept singing and performing to block out the hater's nonsense.
The quick illustration I did for the playlist expresses the energy from those who countered hate with sound and bubbles. Every PRIDE season - this year being no exception - I find myself reflecting on the fact that Pride started out as necessary riots.
